I thought the exact same thing.................but then i saw the movie and he is fantastic in it, and deserves all the praise he is getting for it.

I don't believe so. It's also a very good movie. I believe if Heath Ledger was still alive it would still be popular because it's a very good movie. He gave the performance of his life in that movie, even if he hadn't died he should have gotten an Oscar nod for it. Well have you seen the movie... it is the most mindblowing, awesome superfantastico, supercool action flick of the year. it really blows your mind away. Filled with amazing dialouges and just unbelievable action sequences, it truelly is the biggest movie of the year. ledger is actually scary...amazing lines also help. for example The joker holds the heroine from a high storey window and threatens batman. Batman says "Let her go". to which our man the Joker says- "Interesting choice of words..... and lets her go". Also while talking to Harvey Twoface he says " I am like a barking Dog, running behind a carl i wud not know what to do if I catch one" pointing to the chaotic nutjob character that he plays
Oh, i think some people pay attention to it because he died, but no some people didnt even like his performance, and it truly is just an amazing film. Heath Ledger has definately made one of the best performances i have ever seen. He really gets into his character and brings excitement into the movie with some humor well, cruel humor. i think it is, not only because-you're right- everyone wants to see a dead man alive, but it IS a brilliant movie with great effects and it's kind of disturbing as well. The new Batman movie? Who liked it?!?
I just saw the new batman movie last night and 2 tell you the truth, it wasn't that good!!! it was way to long and not as good as every made it out to be.

In a blog I read recently I found out that some people thought that it was fine that they showed the film after his death I do not approve. I do intend to see the movie to see his last performance. Heath Ledger's death should in no way effect the marketing or distribution of his last completed performance. If you tried to establish a precedence that no film could be shown in which all of the actors were no longer alive, you could systematically wipe out all film history.
I also don't understand why it is wrong for other people to watch "The Dark Knight" but it is fine for you to do so.

yes thought he was brilliant, i didnt really fancy seeing it not sure why as i have seen the old ones and liked them, anyway kids persuaded me to take them. i had thought that maybe heath ledgers performance was being hyped up cos he died but no he was brilliant, didnt like christian bale as batman, what happened to clooney or kilmer? thought he looked like michael vaughan (england cricked captain ex ) and with same level of personality - zero. thought it was a bit violent for a 12a, my kids were ok as they are nearly 12 but wouldnt want to take younger or more sensitive ones to see it.
Thought it was really good but there was too much crammed into it and could have made two movies out of it. You just wasted 5 points because people ask this question all the time and I got 2 points for it so thank you very much!

The movie blew me away!!! I knew anything with Christian Bale's name on it is good! But Heath Ledger was definitely the leading star in that movie! I could not believe it! But at the end when I was walking out of the theater I wasn't..I didn't feel happy, because I knew that was the last I'd see of Heath's Joker ....
I thought it was great! My fiance thinks they should stop making Batman movies because he can't see them being able to top this one! I thought Heath Ledger did a great job as the Joker (not Oscar worthy though)...I loved the scene when he was prancing out of the hospital and can't get the detonator to work, lol. Some people blame the US of A for being arrogant and pushing our selves around the world as an exaple of democracy for causing the rise in terrorism and making the extemeist attacks us. I think that is ridiculous, but that very ideo is explored in this movie as Alfred tells Batman, you attacked organized crime so they are fighting back with the Joker. I don't think fighting evil causes more evil, but it is an interesting question that this film brings up. The idea of what is a hero is also addresed a lot in this film, and half face is a man that is both, first a hero at the district attorney and than a villian after his terrible ordeal.
So in anwser to your question, this movie is fantastic on many levels and I think everyone will enjoy it.

Well Star Wars was movie going at its best at that time. Also there was the originality factor and the special effects, all of which was mind blowing. In comparison, the Dark Knight already had an estabilshed history/storyline but it was by far the best movie I seen since Stars Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jaws.

I wouldn't mind the Penguin, actually. If they present him as his current incarnation in the comics, a crime boss/underworld broker type of character. He'd be able to match wits with the Batman instead of using silly umbrellas. The Riddler is pretty much pointless, though. They could use Catwoman, but leave out the schizophrenia they used in Batman Returns. Just have her a morally ambivalent thief who can go toe to toe with Batman. So there's your story. Two-Face decides to clean up Gotham with more extreme methods than Batman, he goes after Catwoman, Batman tries to decide which side to take, the crook who doesn't kill anyone or his now murderous old ally, meanwhile Penguin is working behind the scenes, playing both sides.

Penguin is too goofy to be in a Chris Nolan batman movie. I can see them doing Catwoman though. and possibly a villain like Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy.
Director Christopher Nolan has said he has no plans to create the Penguin.

It really makes me wonder what the other Villains of Batman would look like if they are going to make a movie of them again

I wouldn't mind the Penguin, actually. If they present him as his current incarnation in the comics, a crime boss/underworld broker type of character. He'd be able to match wits with the Batman instead of using silly umbrellas. The Riddler is pretty much pointless, though. They could use Catwoman, but leave out the schizophrenia they used in Batman Returns. Just have her a morally ambivalent thief who can go toe to toe with Batman. So there's your story. Two-Face decides to clean up Gotham with more extreme methods than Batman, he goes after Catwoman, Batman tries to decide which side to take, the crook who doesn't kill anyone or his now murderous old ally, meanwhile Penguin is working behind the scenes, playing both sides.
There has been rumors that Johnny Depp might play riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman will play penguin.

Penguin is too goofy to be in a Chris Nolan batman movie. I can see them doing Catwoman though. and possibly a villain like Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy.
Director Christopher Nolan has said he has no plans to create the Penguin.
I'd like to see the Riddler coz there could be some great mystery, and Batman would have to use his brain to defeat him.

I don't know if your aware of Tom Hardy's word but he is actually a brilliant actor, I'll even go as far to say that he's a better actor than Heath Ledger was in my opinion. So I guess this new move is coming out, Inception, and it's by the guy who did the dark knight, so would this mean that there won't be a new batman movie for awhile. I don't see why this would be bad, Chris Nolan has made movies in between Batman movies before (The Prestige). I am a little irritated with your question. Can't you just be satisfied that the movies are finally more on cue? They are darker and more interesting than the originals. I just didn't understand it, didn't get it. I'm a HUGE one, but I'll see if it's worth looking at!
Well, the only characters the movie needed to explain was the Joker and Two Face. Batman, Gordon, Rachel, and everyone else was explained in the first movie. Im not trying to insult you or anything, but the reason you found the other movies so interesting is because the characters all have some sort of imaginary power that is really fun to watch on screen. For example, I don't know anything about the XMEN but i enjoyed it because who doesn't want to watch a movie where one of the main characters has crazy claws coming out of his hands? lol. Batman does not have superpowers or anything fancy to display on the screen besides his gadgets and his cars. He has to rely on regular human ability, which is why some people thought the movie was so good. Plus if you don't like the story, then there is no reason to watch it at all. However, i thought the story was pretty good, and if i were you Id give it another shot, but watch Batman Begins (the first movie) so it would help you understand what's what.

some people like you just can't understand the qualities of a good movie. The dark knight did not have an epic battle at the end, but it did prove that batman was not just a character placed to entertain you t, but he was a real hero. The film had a fairly deep and complex plot, the qualitities that go into a good movie. Also the movie Batman Begins gave plenty of information about the motives and backround of Bruce Wayne. The Dark Night did a fantastic job of creating a situation of desperation that only Batman could fix.
I thought it was an excellent movie but I do know alot about Batman and the Joker as well as two face who is also in this film.
My major criticism is that the movie was too long, about half an hour too long. There were a couple of parts that were not necessary. They were not relevant to the current film or helpful in filling in the blanks.
I would encourage you to see it again after seeing Batman begins so you can learn the story and make more sense of it all. I do think it helps to have a basic understanding of the film or comic to get full enjoyment out of it but I did really enjoy it.What did you think of the New Batman Movie "The Dark Knight"?
Well I have to disagree with you I saw it and I loved it! But I'm a girl and it's obvious girls don't read comics that often and don't really pay attention to superheros. Even with all that said I still understood everything about the characters. And trust me I know far from "tons" about the characters. Anyways maybe you just over all didn't like the movie.
Yeah i know its hard. But i think movies that provoke tough may be a little to challenging for you. I think its better to go finish high school then see this movie.

it is the best movie of the year. ledger's joker is better then nicholosn's and hamill's. mark hamill played the joker on the animated batman series. that one scene with ledger outside of the hospital was very creepy. ledger's joker is alos the scariest. he had mutiple stories on how he got his scars.

ok, they didn't sit there and give you a straight up bio of all the characters. It took some concentration. However, it wasn't hard to see that this movie wasn't focused on the surface story of good vs. evil. It was much deeper than that. It was about the nature of people. For example, Batman/Bruce is a character that is doing what is best for the city. This is clear at the end when he tells Gordon to report he killed the people that Harvey/2 face did so the criminals would stay in prison. In contrast to the Harvey was someone who appeared to be looking out for the city, but his true nature was that he was focused more on himself and his emotions. The Joker is very different. The Joker wants to expose this true nature. He gives people the choice to do the right thing or to do what will help themselves. Like the fairies for instance. He thought that people would quickly decide to save themselves, however they hesitated. And then one of the passengers on the civilian boat said one of the best lines in the movie, "If we're still here that means they haven't pushed it (the detonator)", this leads to both boats not pressing it and the Joker losing there. Another example is when he is convincing Harvey to go after the people that caused Rachel to die. He is feeding off of the pain Harvey is going through to convince him to do the wrong thing and retaliate. Harvey does and the Joker wins in the situation.
This movie wasn't about the individual "characters". It was about the "character's" character. Not so much focused on the back-story and history of the individuals, but about what kind of person they were, whether the were selfish or selfless. That's just my opinion though. Think what you want but in my mind the meaning was allot deeper than what most people pick up on.

Well, the only characters the movie needed to explain was the Joker and Two Face. Batman, Gordon, Rachel, and everyone else was explained in the first movie. Im not trying to insult you or anything, but the reason you found the other movies so interesting is because the characters all have some sort of imaginary power that is really fun to watch on screen. For example, I don't know anything about the XMEN but i enjoyed it because who doesn't want to watch a movie where one of the main characters has crazy claws coming out of his hands? lol. Batman does not have superpowers or anything fancy to display on the screen besides his gadgets and his cars. He has to rely on regular human ability, which is why some people thought the movie was so good. Plus if you don't like the story, then there is no reason to watch it at all. However, i thought the story was pretty good, and if i were you Id give it another shot, but watch Batman Begins (the first movie) so it would help you understand what's what.

some people like you just can't understand the qualities of a good movie. The dark knight did not have an epic battle at the end, but it did prove that batman was not just a character placed to entertain you t, but he was a real hero. The film had a fairly deep and complex plot, the qualitities that go into a good movie. Also the movie Batman Begins gave plenty of information about the motives and backround of Bruce Wayne. The Dark Night did a fantastic job of creating a situation of desperation that only Batman could fix.
I thought it was an excellent movie but I do know alot about Batman and the Joker as well as two face who is also in this film.
My major criticism is that the movie was too long, about half an hour too long. There were a couple of parts that were not necessary. They were not relevant to the current film or helpful in filling in the blanks.
I would encourage you to see it again after seeing Batman begins so you can learn the story and make more sense of it all. Well I have to disagree with you I saw it and I loved it! But I'm a girl and it's obvious girls don't read comics that often and don't really pay attention to superheros. Even with all that said I still understood everything about the characters. And trust me I know far from "tons" about the characters. Anyways maybe you just over all didn't like the movie.

it is the best movie of the year. ledger's joker is better then nicholosn's and hamill's. mark hamill played the joker on the animated batman series. that one scene with ledger outside of the hospital was very creepy. ledger's joker is alos the scariest. he had mutiple stories on how he got his scars.

I'm most certainly planning to see the Dark Knight! I have been keeping up with it almost every day via http://www.batman-on-film.com ! This movie's gonna ROCK! Yes, the trailer caught my interest, and I like what I see! Replacing Holmes, for whatever reason, was a GREAT idea. She didn't have the "gusto" to be Rachel, who needs to be a stronger character than Holmes provided.
All the critics say that not only is this the best Batman film ever (which unfortunately isn't saying much), they also say that The Dark Knight is a superhero classic.
Maggie Gyllenhaal seems much more the gotham type than Katie Holmes, so I'm happy for that.
With all due respect to Ledger, however, I think that if Jack wanted to be the Joker again, which he did, he should have gotten the role hands down.
I'm excited to see the transformation of Two-Face and the possible cameos by Scarecrow and harley Quinn.

I think the Dark Knight will be the best summer movie of the year. It's good that they switched actors . Katie didn't do very good. Hopefully maggie does better. I saw this movie , it was not for kids at all. The Batman theme and concept has just lost all respect from me. I will never see a another Batman movie again. not everyone knows this, but comic books were not origionally intended for kids. just because something is animated doesn't mean it's for kids. i'm sure you know that now, with shows like family guy and south park. these characters in these movies (x-men, batman, etc) were meant for older kids, and young adult entertainment. if you'll notice, the two tim burton batman movies (batman, batman returns) were fairly dark, and not very kid friendly for the era. then joel schumacher (batman forever, batman %26amp; robin) cheesed it up and made two light-hearted batman movies that are now considered by most people the worst of all the batman movies. enter christopher nolan. his two movies are much darker and young adult oriented. but who knows, 15 years from now, they will probably be considered ok for kids.

I can understand where you are coming from. I never read the comic books when I was little but have read Harry Potter. Although Harry Potter and Batman are no where near the same the concept of the orignial idea being turned around is. I think perhaps Batman now is different because society is different. Yeah kids do not need to see a pencil being shoved in a persons head. They are not making the movies for kids now. They are making the movies because they once were kids and read the comic and now want to make the movie as if it were happening now. Things are different now, things are rougher and everyone is seeing more violence. The Batman is still good, he still saves the citizens and fights the bad guys.
I thought the movie was amazing. I also can understand her frustrations. Try looking at the movie from just a movie stand point and not something that is trying to copy or reproduce the comic.
I think that if u do a comic movie that looks like a cartoon .. why do it ? No, not at all. This movie wasn't made for kids. That's why it was rated PG-13, duh. This movie, in my opinion, was focused more on the Joker than Batman. And if you look at the Joker he is a very dark very insane character who enjoys seeing people in pain. Batman tries to overtake that insanity. He does what is needed even if it's not fun or nice. Batman isn't sugarcoated or covered in sprinkles, he is a true hero who does what is right even if it causes him to look like the villain. That's what a hero really is, a hero isn't someone who pulls people out of rubble or ties up a bad guy, a hero is someone who will sacrifice everything to do the right thing. Heroes that just do "good" things are so superficial, they mean nothing, and they aren't real heroes.
Part of what has allowed Batman to endure all of these years has been constant reinvention of the character to fit the times. Everyone has their own idea of the best rendition of the character. Although this isn't my favorite version of Batman, I still thought the movie was great. I agree that the movie is not at all suitable for young children (even though I can't walk through a department store without tripping over displays of Dark Knight toys.) The bottom line is that I think Batman will continue to evolve as the times change and will still be around years from now in one version or another.

First off I'd like to state I think that the way it played out was unrealistic at best, and flat out wrong at worst. To think that there wasn't any people on either boat who wouldn't crack under the pressure and try to jump the guys holding the triggers was laughable, and once one ran at the carrier it would have created a mob mentality. Anyway thats neither here nor there, on to your question.
2 groups of people put into that situation right after seeing it......(I'm a realist) I think that any small group of people will contain aleast 1 @$$hole and a group that large will have quite a few, not only @-holes but pleny selfish enough not to care about others lives over theirs. Even Alan Moore comics struggled to make Robin anything more than a waste of time. I really hope there is no Robin. Dark Knight and the incredible Joker have set the bar real high. Adding some Scrappy Doo-type character will kill it. I can't see how Dark Knight can be bettered.
