Katie Holmes was the worst thing in the first film. Maggie Gyllenhall is a much better actress. I was glad they switched.

Because she wasn't very good in the first movie. The choice of Maggie Gylenhaal was much better for The Dark Knight.

She was offered the part. It was her decision to turn it down.The official reason given was that she said that she had scheduling conflicts and had already committed to a movie ( that ended up being Mad Money with Queen Latifah) that would have conflicted with Batman filming. Unofficially, there were rumors that she didn't want to be typecast into that character and wanted to do smaller more artsy movies in order to be taken more seriously as an actor.
That's what i think ....Tom Cruise said hell no you cannot be in a movie bigger than my whole career.
